TRAVEL: New Orleans

Rob and I were in New Orleans last week for a portfolio building shoot and it turned out great. We’d always talked about taking a trip that would allow us to focus on photography and I’ve always wanted to go to New Orleans so we finally made it happen. The culture and vibe of New [...]

Cafe Culture

Looking at my friend’s, Brian and Ashley’s, pictures from their recent trip to Europe really gave me a case of the travel bug. I’ve only recently gotten back from a big trip (Dalmatian Coast) but I feel like it’s been forever and I’m already looking forward to our next adventure. To pass the time I’ve [...]

Where I’m Going/Been/Wanna Go Map

Just put together this graphic on where I’ve recently been, where I’m going soon and where I really want to go but most likely won’t make it there in a couple years.  I’ll try to keep this up to date and it will be available on my Where I’ve Been page.  Let me know if [...]

SINGLE: Boise National Forest

A single tree at the top of a ridge in the Boise National Forest.

Reflection of Reflection

I’ve been on the kick of reading e-books lately. Not only are they cheap and immediately viewable but the ebooks from Craft and Vision do a really good job of teaching photography one technique or lesson at a time while presenting a beautiful collection of photographs in the process. The one that really stuck out [...]

TRAVEL: Croatia Slideshow/Gallery

Alright, a lot of people have been asking so below is the slideshow of the best photographs from the Croatia trip. You can expand the slideshow if you would like and can also click on a picture to view it full screen or to buy prints. You can also see a lot more Croatia/Montenegro/Bosnia-Herzegovina photos [...]

TRAVEL: Croatia

Trg. sv Stjepana (Main Square) in Hvar, Croatia It’s been a while but I’m back; from both my wedding and a long vacation so I’ll get right to it. My wife (still sounds a little weird) and I spent two incredible weeks exploring the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia where I had quite a few opportunities [...]

SINGLE: Sawtooth Mountains

Sawtooth Mountain range from the scenic overlook just north of Stanley, Idaho.

Julie on the Beach

Julie on the beach in Seaside, Oregon

TRAVEL: Oregon Coast

So I finally got time to go through the hundreds of photos I took over our 4 day road trip up the coast of Oregon. We went as south as Coos Bay and as north as Seaside and couldn’t have asked for more beautiful weather. Since I was traveling with others I had to be [...]

Sneak Peak: Oregon Coast in July

We just got back from a 4 day road trip to the Oregon Coast and had a blast. I’m working through the hundreds of photos I took but here is a sneak peak of one from Sunset Bay State Park near North Bend, Oregon. Another photographer had a tripod setup so I used him as [...]

Dachau Concentration Camp

Photographs of the Dachau Concentration Camp in southern Germany. I thought the mood was more accurately reflected using black and white.

The Onlooker

My shadow overlooking the Treasure Valley.

Lindau, Germany

One of my favorite places in Europe is Lindau, Germany. Lindau is a small island on the northeast corner of Lake Constance (Bodensee in Deutsch) and is gorgeous. It’s connected to the Bavarian mainland with a causeway and in more prosperous times was a thriving Imperial city on a north-south trade route.

Salzburg, Austria

Two shots of the Salzburg Cathedral in Austria.

Blackjack!

Vegas. We stopped in Las Vegas for a night last weekend and I think I’m still recovering. I used the car window to frame the shot and I think the bright lights and colorful chaotic signage help capture my vision of Las Vegas perfectly. I used a wide aperture (f4.5) to blur Rob’s face a [...]

The Missions

The San Antonio Missions were my favorite places in the San Antonio area. The national historic park is actually made up of four missions and their churches. We stopped by Mission San Jose and Mission Concepcion and I was a little disappointed to find both churches having wedding services beginning right when we got there. [...]

San Antonio, Texas

San Antonio was an interesting visit for me. Like any city you visit there were highs and lows but what really stuck out for me was the history and architecture. The Riverwalk, Alamo and all the rest of the “touristy” stuff was good and all but the Spanish colonial architecture with it’s whitewashed stone and [...]

Snoozin in Seville

A great shot of an old man catching a quick nap at the Alcazar in Seville, Spain. The Alcazar is a royal palace located in the middle of Seville, Spain which was originally constructed as a Moorish fort. Today the palace is one of the best remaining examples of mudejar architecture and is still used [...]

The Alamo

We weren’t the only ones there but it was definitely cool to get to see the Alamo for the first time. It’s definitely something everyone should see once. Here are my attempts at doing something different with it. See the rest of the pictures from the Texas trip here.

High City

Shot of Citta Alta (“High City”) in Bergamo, Italy circa 2005.

Travelin’

We’re headin to San Antonio tomorrow and I’m really looking forward to it. We’ve got a family reunion on Saturday, a lot of time to explore, and some R&R at my parent’s house in Austin, which I desperately need. The trip is also exciting because it begins my string of upcoming travels over the next [...]

Which One?

I can’t decide which I like better; the color or the black-n-white. What do you think?

Eastern Oregon :: JDFBNM Painted Hills Unit

These pictures are the second installment of the Eastern Oregon trip and are from the JDFBNM Painted Hills Unit. When we got there, it was heavily overcast and the lighting sucked but the hills were pretty crazy. Apparently the painted hills are named after the colorful layers of its hills corresponding to various geological eras, [...]
